Webdot can provide on-going support for your website, including technical support, web hosting, and regular backups.
We can also work with you to implement long-term content development strategies (i.e., expanding content over time) or online marketing programs (e.g., building out landing pages).
Technical Support
Many companies do not have the skills in-house to manage their own website, especially the web server end of things. If you do, power to you. If you don’t, we can provide whatever degree of technical support you may need. That can include a la carte tasking as things come up or we can set-up a regular program of upkeep (or both).
At a minimum, you will need to plan on keeping the website software platform up-to-date. Like all software, the software platform your website is built on is constantly being updated and upgraded. In many cases, these updates relate to fixing security vulnerabilities, but they may also be about improved features and functionality. Whatever their purpose, we advise that you have a mechanism for handling these updates to ensure you site is secure and running the latest versions of things.
Hosting
There are innumerable web hosting providers. Many are good, many are bad. It is important to find and use one of the good ones.
We can either host your site within our own hosting infrastructure or we can set you up with your own account. If you need help picking a vendor, we can recommend someone for you.
Backups
One thing that many people don’t do is to backup their websites. This is a bad idea because it leaves you vulnerable to all sorts of potential problems that can crash your site and leave you with nothing. Some of the potential problems include power outages, server failures, hacker intrusions, corruption by viruses, and human errors.
We can help you set-up a regular, on-going backup program to keep your site safe and secure. When you have backups of your site, you can use these to restore the site to its full functionality fairly quickly. If you don’t have backups, then you may have to rebuild substantial parts of your site.
Doing backups involves copying all the files used in your website, plus your website database and other essentials. If your website ever goes down, you will be able to recover a recent version of the site off these backups.
For maximum security, we recommend saving your website backups to a remote server in another location and with a different vendor than you use for web hosting.
